What is Y-DNA, marker or STR?

Y-DNA is a gender chromosome Y, which is passed from father to son only. Testing the Y chromosome allows to Investigating into a Males paternal family line and giving knowledge by learning about your ancestors, their origin and their migration routes. This test is performed using Markers referred as STRs (Short tandem repeats) which are series of repeated nucleotides. Despite the fact that humans share the overwhelming majority of the same DNA, the tiny fraction of a percent that varies can be used to create a profile of the individual.

Which test to choose?

Y-DNA test uses 37 and 111 markers. The advantage of doing higher Y-scale is it gives more accurate and in detail match.

What is mtDNA?

The mitochondrial DNA test, traces a person’s matrilineal or mother-line ancestry using the DNA in their mitochondria. mtDNA is passed down by the mother unchanged, to all her children, both male and female. This test can be taken by both men and women.

What does the process look like?
